Softball Recap: Elwood Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Elwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lawrence Central Bears, sneaking past 11-10. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Elwood got a massive performance out of Kelsey Armes, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Armes a new career-high. Taylor Hawks was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Elwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Elwood's win bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Lawrence Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

Elwood and Lawrence Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 237th) will meet Lapel (ranked 32nd) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Lawrence Central will square off against Living Water Homeschool at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (276 vs. 49).
