Basketball Recap: Austin Classical Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Hannah Brummett and Olivia Hamilton

If Austin Classical was feeling good fresh off their 54-28 takedown of Our Lady of the Hills last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Austin Classical Mustangs took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the First Baptist Academy Eagles. That makes it the first time this season the Mustangs have let down their home crowd.

Olivia Hamilton and Hannah Brummett certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Hamilton went 7 of 15 en route to 17 points and eight boards, while Brummett posted four points in addition to 18 rebounds and four blocks. Austin Classical is 2-1 when Brummett posts eight or more boards, but 7-8 otherwise.

Austin Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for First Baptist Academy, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Cornerstone Christian the next time they take the court. First Baptist Academy will host Cornerstone Christian at 5:00 p.m. on February 7th, while Austin Classical will host them at 5:00 p.m. on February 10th.
