Basketball Recap: Payton Giannone's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Metea Valley over Saint Viator

Metea Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. The matchup between them and the Saint Viator Lions didn't end well, with the Metea Valley Mustangs falling 48-32. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while the Lions are ranked 126th).

Metea Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Payton Giannone, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Jailyn Cutts, who scored six points.

Metea Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Saint Viator, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Metea Valley and Wheeling will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Saint Viator, they will finish 2024 at home by hosting Glenbrook North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
