Baseball Game Preview: Gilmour Academy Lancers vs. Nordonia Knights

The Gilmour Academy Lancers will take on the Nordonia Knights in a tournament on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gilmour Academy 2.6, Nordonia 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Gilmour Academy is headed into the match having just suffered their closest defeat since May 1, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Mayfield by a score of 3-1.

Independence typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Nordonia proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Blue Devils. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Steven Fakult tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Reville, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Dominik Canzoni was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run.

Nordonia hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Nordonia's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-13. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gilmour Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
