Baseball Game Preview: Moreau Catholic Mariners vs. Washington Huskies

The Moreau Catholic Mariners will head out to square off against the Washington Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Moreau Catholic has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Washington will arrive with six straight victories.

Last Thursday, Moreau Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat James Logan and fell 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Mariners have lost by just one run.

Micah Marks made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Meanwhile, Washington had just enough and edged out Kennedy 3-2 on Friday.

Washington's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Moreau Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Moreau Catholic's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Mariners have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Washington, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Moreau Catholic continue to outrun the ball?

Moreau Catholic suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Washington when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Mariners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
