Baseball Game Preview: Westmont Warriors vs. Leland Chargers

For the second straight game, Westmont will face off against Leland. The Warriors will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Chargers at 4:00 p.m. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Westmont has lost five straight at home , while Leland has lost seven on the road (dating back to last season).

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Westmont turned things around against Leland on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Chargers.

James Doherty made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Doherty wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shaun Nishijima, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Westmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Leland's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Westmont, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-13-1.
