Baseball Recap: Meridian Hawks vs. Nokomis Redskins

Meridian had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-16 to make it 16. They fell just short of the Nokomis Redskins by a score of 5-4. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Redskins from their previous meeting back in May of 2022.

Ted Jones made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Grady Stock was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

As for Nokomis, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

Looking ahead, Meridian will head out on the road to take on Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nokomis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bunker Hill at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Redskins are facing the Minutemen at the right time seeing as the Minutemen are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
