Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Second Baptist). In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 49-48 win over the St. John's Mavericks. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

When it comes to explaining why St. John's lost on Friday, don't look at Hanley Sayers. Despite the final result, he rushed for 272 yards and four scores while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. With that strong performance, Sayers is now averaging an impressive 131 rushing yards per game. Shea Quinn was another key player, throwing for 212 yards and a pair of TDs.

Second Baptist's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for St. John's, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Second Baptist has already played their next game, a 42-17 loss against Kinkaid on the 26th. As for St. John's, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-21 win against Lutheran South Academy on the 26th.
