Basketball Game Preview: Grayville Bison vs. Webber Trojans

Grayville hasn't had much luck against Webber recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Grayville Bison will challenge the Webber Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Grayville came up into this matchup off a tough 29-point defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of North Clay/Clay City by a score of 79-76 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bison have suffered since December 18, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Grayville got top-tier performance from Zach Leavens, who posted 34 points. The match was Leavens' seventh in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Hosman, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Webber won against Zeigler-Royalton on Monday with 78 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. Webber strolled past Cisne with points to spare, taking the game 78-59. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Runnin' Lions are ranked 637th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Webber's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. As for Grayville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-16.

Grayville lost to Webber on the road by a decisive 93-76 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2024.
