Softball Game Preview: Plainview Hornets vs. Pickering Red Devils

The Plainview Hornets will square off against the Pickering Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Plainview is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Marksville on Friday. They lost 16-1 to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Pickering beat LaGrange 13-9 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.

Ava Roberts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Pickering got a massive performance out of Alayna Yates, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Yates a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Legans, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Plainview's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Pickering, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Plainview came out on top in a nail-biter against Pickering in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
