Softball Recap: Churubusco Comes Up Short

Churubusco had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 10-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Homestead Spartans, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

As for Homestead, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

For Homestead's part, they let Braeli Borchers and Grace Jordan run wild. Borchers went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Jordan went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Borchers a new career-high. Maddy Burbrink was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Churubusco will welcome Fremont at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Homestead, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:30 p.m. The Saints will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
