Softball Recap: Mt. Markham Comes Up Short

Mt. Markham dropped their record down to 7-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hamilton Emerald Knights by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Hamilton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

For Hamilton's part, Mt. Markham's batters probably weren't too happy with Ellie Freeth, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Freeth has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Adriana Catania was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Mt. Markham and Hamilton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Mustangs will challenge Dolgeville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (167 vs. 546). Meanwhile, Hamilton (ranked 99th) will meet Oriskany (ranked 512th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
