Basketball Recap: Jacob Onnen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Donovan over Watseka

Donovan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They fell 63-53 to the Watseka Warriors. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Donovan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jacob Onnen, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Onnen has posted since back in November of 2023. Brendan Hennieke was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 12 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Donovan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Donovan's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Watseka, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-10.

Donovan has already played their next game, a 61-57 loss against Grant Park on the 14th. As for Watseka, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-43 win against Momence on the 12th.
