Basketball Recap: Burwell Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Burwell won the last time they faced Riverside, and Kaitlyn Simpson did her part to make sure it happened again. The Burwell Longhorns breezed by the Riverside Chargers to the tune of 53-20 on Tuesday thanks in part to Simpson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game.

Another player making a difference was Karsyn Bower, who posted four points in addition to seven boards and five assists. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds.

Riverside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Mahony, who scored six points and five steals. Brooklyn Weltruski also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Burwell is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Riverside, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Burwell has already played their next game (against Ord), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Riverside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 36-25 loss against Arcadia/Loup City on the 16th.
