Football Game Preview: Bloomfield Bees vs. Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars

Bloomfield is a perfect 3-0 against Niobrara/Verdigre since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bees will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Bloomfield's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Niobrara/Verdigre has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

On Friday, Bloomfield didn't have too much trouble with Boyd County as they won 42-28. Given the Bees' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Spartans are ranked 62nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brock Jeannoutot had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 226 yards and three scores while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 17 yards and one TD. Jeannoutot is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 140 every time he's taken the field this season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bloomfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 276 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Niobrara/Verdigre played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 66-20 defeat at the hands of Crofton. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-12.

Even if they lost, Niobrara/Verdigre's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Crofton's QB won't forget Coy Wickersham anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Jacob Motacek was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles.

Bloomfield's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Bloomfield didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Niobrara/Verdigre when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 20-16 victory. Will the Bees repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
