Independence entered their tilt with Charlotte Catholic on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-1 back in March.

Maliyah Alexander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Morgan Clark, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Natalie Johnson also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Independence's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Charlotte Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Coming up, Independence will welcome West Cabarrus at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
