Basketball Recap: Donovan Waleskowski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Xavier over Lakota West

St. Xavier fought the good fight in their overtime match against Lakota West on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Lakota West Firebirds 61-56. The Bombers have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Several Bombers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donovan Waleskowski, who posted 16 points. Waleskowski is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 57% in the last four games he's played. Brayden Reilly was another key player, going 6-for-13 on his way to 14 points.

St. Xavier's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Lakota West, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

St. Xavier and Lakota West should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. St. Xavier will take on Colerain at 7:30 p.m. on February 24th up 534 places (8 vs. 542). Similarly, Lakota West (ranked 36th) will meet Hamilton (ranked 350th) at 6:00 p.m. on February 25th.
