Basketball Recap: Creede Comes Up Short

Creede was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Sierra Grande Panthers, falling 67-18. The matchup marked the Miners' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Jaxson Fazio was Creede's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Fazio also led the team in rebounds with seven. Charlie Fairchild took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Sierra Grande was led to victory by Jadyn Martinez and Aron Ojeda. Martinez went 10 for 19 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven boards and six steals, while Ojeda went 8 of 16 en route to 19 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Martinez's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Carlos Lopez was another key player, putting up four points.

Creede's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-9. As for Sierra Grande, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Creede and Moffat will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Sierra Grande, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cotopaxi at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sierra Grande has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 229 points over their last three contests.
