Basketball Game Preview: Shadle Park Highlanders vs. Mt. Spokane Wildcats

The Shadle Park Highlanders will take on the Mt. Spokane Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Shadle Park took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 65-52 win over Pasco. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Highlanders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Mt. Spokane suffered their closest defeat since March 1, 2024 last Friday. They fell just short of Lake City by a score of 62-59. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 39th in Washington, while the Timberwolves are ranked third in Idaho).

Mt. Spokane moved to 6-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Shadle Park, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.

Shadle Park was taken down by Mt. Spokane 87-46 in their previous matchup back in January of 2020. Can Shadle Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
