Baseball Recap: Dixie Heights Wins Going Away Against Beechwood

Dixie Heights came out on top against Beechwood on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Colonels put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-2 win. This was a revenge game for the Colonels: when they faced off against the Tigers two weeks ago, they had to take a 4-0 defeat.

Wesley Wilson tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Dixie Heights' success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 9-12-1 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Owen Stulz and Will Steczynski did most of the damage at the plate: Stulz got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Steczynski went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Stulz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Dixie Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Dixie Heights and bumps their season record up to 11-13-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Beechwood, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.

Looking ahead, Dixie Heights is taking a road trip to challenge Lloyd Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Beechwood, they will host Covington Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
