Basketball Recap: Hatch Valley Bears vs. Santa Teresa Desert Warriors
The Hatch Valley Bears fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They secured a 47-43 W over Santa Teresa on Saturday. That's another feather in the cap for Hatch Valley, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Hatch Valley found their leader in underclassman Caydence Roberts, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Sophia Holguin, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Hatch Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-12. As for Santa Teresa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hatch Valley will challenge the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Socorro is ranked 119th, while the Bears are ranked 130th). As for Santa Teresa, they will head out on the road to square off against the Fighting Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
