Volleyball Recap: Western Wayne Triumphs

While Western Wayne's victory against Valley View wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats won by a set and slipped past the Cougars 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.

While Western Wayne might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Valley View scored at least 14 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 16-14.

Western Wayne found their leader in sophomore Abbie Washine, who had six digs and four aces. Washine also set a new season-high mark in assists with 42. Skyla McGuire also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Western Wayne was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces every time they've taken the court this season.

When it comes to explaining why Valley View lost on Tuesday, don't look at Layla Marino. Despite the final result, she had eight kills, seven aces, and three digs. With that strong performance, Marino is now averaging an impressive 5.2 kills per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Evans, who had three aces and one block.

Western Wayne now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Valley View, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
