Baseball Recap: Ponce De Leon Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ponce De Leon can now relate to. They fell just short of the Chipley Tigers by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost six in a row.

Dalton Churchwell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

Churchwell wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trey Rushing, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Ponce De Leon's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Chipley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Ponce De Leon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chipley, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-0 loss against Holmes County on the 17th.
