West County proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ste. Genevieve Dragons, sneaking past 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Grace Barton made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Barton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lacey LaMarr, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
West County's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Ste. Genevieve, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West County will venture away from home to face off against Kingston at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Ste. Genevieve, they are taking a road trip to take on Meadow Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
