Softball Game Preview: Westfield Shamrocks vs. Mooresville Pioneers

The Westfield Shamrocks will take on the Mooresville Pioneers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Westfield took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Shelbyville with a sharp 15-7 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Shamrocks considering their one-run performance the game before.

Mackenzie Delph tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Westfield got a massive performance out of Avery Banas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits Banas has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Gettinger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Westfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Mooresville's offense. They came up short against Center Grove on Thursday, falling 15-0. The Pioneers' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Mooresville's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
