Basketball Recap: Wiregrass Comes Up Short

Wiregrass was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were dealt a 51-14 defeat at the hands of the Evangel Christian Lightning. While losing is never fun, the Kings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while the Lightning are ranked 146th).

Jayda Dozier was Wiregrass' leading scorer, having posted six points. Avery Barnes held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

Evangel Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lilli Whitfield out in front who posted eight points along with 12 rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Cassimiro, who had eight points and ten boards.

Wiregrass' loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Evangel Christian, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Wiregrass has already played their next contest, a 61-24 defeat against Ezekiel Academy on the 4th. As for Evangel Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 51-20 victory against Pineview Christian on the 3rd.
