Soccer Game Preview: Seaside vs. Monterey

The Seaside Spartans will square off against the Monterey Dores at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Seaside's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Tuesday, Seaside came up short against Everett Alvarez and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 827th, while the Eagles are ranked 32nd).

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Monterey brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on North Salinas with a sharp 4-1 victory on Friday. Considering the Dores' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ethan Bonilla and Liam Rawson scored all four of Monterey's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 16 goals.

Monterey's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-3-3. As for Seaside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9-2.

Seaside beat Monterey by a goal in their previous meeting on January 8th, winning 1-0. Does Seaside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monterey turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
