Softball Recap: Northwest Beats Napoleon for Their Third Straight Victory

Northwest came out on top against Napoleon on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Mounties were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Pirates. The win was familiar territory for the Mounties, who have now won three matches in a row.

Lucy Bivens (2025) made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bivens (2025) was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shannon Christner (2028), who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kayleigh Rice also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Northwest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Northwest's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Napoleon, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwest will head out to challenge Pinckney at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Napoleon, they will venture away from home to square off against Columbia Central at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
