Football Recap: Bruni Takes a Loss

Bruni extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were outmatched by the Incarnate Word Academy Angels and fell 56-6. The Badgers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-6.

As for Incarnate Word Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-1. That 50 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Incarnate Word Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damian Salazar led the charge by rushing for 182 yards and four scores on only six carries. Salazar's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 158 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Eli Becker, who gained 149 total yards and four touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Bruni will be playing at home against Yorktown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Badgers will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against John Paul II at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Angels will be up against the Centurions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.25 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
