Softball Game Preview: Maconaquah Braves vs. Blackford Bruins

Maconaquah has gone 8-1 against Blackford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Braves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bruins at 11:00 a.m. Maconaquah is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, Maconaquah didn't have quite enough to beat Peru and fell 7-6.

Blayklee Buman put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, Shaela Brazzel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kasey Murry, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Blackford's offense. They lost 7-0 to Frankton on Thursday.

Blackford has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Maconaquah, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.

Maconaquah came out on top in a nail-biter against Blackford in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 9-7. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
