Baseball Game Preview: Johnsburg Skyhawks vs. Woodstock North Thunder

For the second straight game, Johnsburg will face off against Woodstock North. The Skyhawks will be playing at home against the Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnsburg will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.

While Johnsburg didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-25), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Woodstock North on Monday. The game was the first time the Skyhawks have beaten the Thunder on their field since May 5, 2022.

Jack Nelson and Dom Vallone did most of the damage at the plate: Nelson went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Vallone scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Vallone has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayden Pinkowski, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Johnsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodstock North only posted an OBP of .214.

Woodstock North moved to 5-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Johnsburg, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Johnsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodstock North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts.
