Basketball Recap: Holcomb Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Holcomb won the last time they faced Cimarron and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Holcomb Longhorns strolled past the Cimarron Bluejays with points to spare, taking the game 63-45. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Bluejays are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Cimarron still got an impressive performance from Miguel Ramirez, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 16 points. What's more, Ramirez also posted a 54% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Trace Kopper was another key player, putting up ten points.

Holcomb has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points over those games. As for Cimarron, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Holcomb has already played their next matchup, a 64-57 victory against Hugoton on the 14th. As for Cimarron, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-43 defeat against Colby on the 14th.
