Baseball Game Preview: Robinson Bulldogs vs. West Cabarrus Wolverines

The Robinson Bulldogs will face off against the West Cabarrus Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Neither Robinson nor West Cabarrus posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Robinson is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of West Rowan.

Tyler Kluttz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Robinson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aury Greenfield, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave Greenfield a new career-high in RBI.

Meanwhile, West Cabarrus came up short against Lake Norman on Friday and fell 6-1. The Wolverines have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meetings.

Robinson now has a losing record of 2-3. As for West Cabarrus, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Robinson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Cabarrus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Robinson skirted past West Cabarrus 9-8 when the teams last played last Tuesday. Does Robinson have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Cabarrus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
