Softball Game Preview: Grafton Bearcats vs. Robert C. Byrd Eagles

The Grafton Bearcats will venture away from home to square off against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grafton will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Grafton will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Lewis County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bearcats came out on top against the Minutemen by a score of 7-4 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Bearcats have won by exactly three runs.

Madison Blair spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lydia Wildroudt, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Reagan Taylor was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Robert C. Byrd suffered their closest defeat since April 21, 2025 on Monday. They fell just short of Preston by a score of 4-2.

Grafton's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Robert C. Byrd, they dropped their record down to 4-8 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Grafton got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Robert C. Byrd by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
