Basketball Recap: Indian Land Comes Up Short

Indian Land suffered their closest defeat since December 3, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Spartanburg Vikings by a score of 33-31. The Warriors lost against the Vikings in their previous head to head back in November of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 63-5 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Indian Land lost, don't look at Emily Callahan. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Katilyn Knoll, who posted three points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals.

Even though they lost, Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Spartanburg found their leader in sophomore Kaylee Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. That's the most points Nelson has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was De'Asia Bridges, who had six points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Indian Land's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Spartanburg, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-5.

Indian Land wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-19 defeat against West Ashley on the 27th. As for Spartanburg, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-60 loss against Charlottesville on the 27th.
