Basketball Recap: Mapleton Comes Up Short

If Mapleton was feeling good fresh off their 57-21 takedown of McKenzie last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mapleton Sailors fell just short of the Mohawk Mustangs by a score of 36-34 on Thursday. The Sailors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 47-26.

Despite the defeat, Mapleton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lucie Burruss posted nine points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Burruss is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Abbi Mendez Galvan was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

Mapleton's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-6. As for Mohawk, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.

Mapleton has already played their next contest, a 47-32 victory against Falls City/Kings Valley Charter on the 28th. Mohawk has also already played their next match (against McKenzie), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
