Kyleigh Mace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alyssa Hahn was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Nala Opulencia was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Willow Glen hadn't done well against Saint Francis recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Rams narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lancers 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since April 25th.
Alanna Clincy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Clincy was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Clincy wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Catalina Medina, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Archbishop Mitty's record is now 25-3. As for Willow Glen, their record now sits at 22-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Mitty has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Willow Glen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Archbishop Mitty skirted past Willow Glen 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
