Baseball Game Preview: Hershey Trojans vs. Red Land Patriots

The Hershey Trojans will head out to take on the Red Land Patriots at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

On Monday, Hershey beat Gettysburg 6-2.

Danny Nelson made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryce Erwin was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Hershey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Red Land earned a 5-1 win over Carlisle on Monday.

Trey Wenger looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Red Land saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Celtruda, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Red Land pushed their record up to 5-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hershey, their record is now 10-5.

Hershey took their victory against Red Land when the teams last played on April 9th by a conclusive 11-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
