Basketball Game Preview: Capital Cougars vs. Riverside Warriors

The Capital Cougars will square off against the Riverside Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capital will be strutting in after a win while Riverside will be coming in after a defeat.

On Saturday, Capital needed a bit of extra time to put away Hoover. They walked away with a 60-48 victory over the Huskies. The team accrued 35 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.

Meanwhile, Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They fell 50-40 to Ripley.

Capital will need to focus on slowing down Ava Ward, one of several Riverside players who made an impact when they last played. She went 5-for-12 en route to 13 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Ward has posted since back in February of 2024. Laila Campbell was another key player, going 6-for-15 to rack up 14 points.

Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Capital, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

Capital was dealt a bruising 61-22 loss at the hands of Riverside in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Capital avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
