Basketball Game Preview: Dunedin Falcons vs. St. Petersburg Catholic Barons

The Dunedin Falcons will face off against the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dunedin will be strutting in after a win while St. Petersburg Catholic will be coming in after a loss.

Dunedin took a loss when they played away from home last Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Northeast as Dunedin made off with a 48-28 victory. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Dunedin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samayah Barnes, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals. That's the most steals Barnes has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Erionna Henry, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and seven steals.

Dunedin was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast only posted seven assists.

Meanwhile, St. Petersburg Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost to Clearwater Central Catholic on the road by a 45-28 margin. While losing is never fun, the Barons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Marauders are ranked 132nd).

St. Petersburg Catholic's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-8. As for Dunedin, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7.
