Basketball Recap: Rocky River Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Rocky River posted their closest win since February 22, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-33 victory over the Normandy Invaders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted against the Invaders since January 27, 2021.

Rocky River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elizabeth Lang led the charge by dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Lang a new career-high. Olivia Dewey was another key player, putting up seven points along with ten steals and six rebounds.

Rocky River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Normandy only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Despite the loss, Normandy still got an impressive performance from Lindsay Meriwether, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to eight steals and six boards. Meriwether has been hot recently, having posted six or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Giana Carcioppolo, who posted three points and five steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Rocky River, bringing their record for this year to 11-3. As for Normandy, they moved to 6-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Rocky River wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 74-47 defeat against Magnificat on the 15th. Normandy has also already played their next match, a 42-40 win against Steele on the 13th.
