Basketball Recap: SA Roosevelt Comes Up Short

SA Roosevelt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Reagan Rattlers. While losing is never fun, the Rough Riders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while the Rattlers are ranked 74th).

Despite the loss, SA Roosevelt still got an impressive performance from Carmelo Martinez, who posted 14 points and four steals. Those four steals gave Martinez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shai Markajani, who had eight points.

Reagan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Hill led the charge by going 5 for 9 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Luke Garrison, who scored eight points.

SA Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Reagan, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

SA Roosevelt will be playing at home against Johnson at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Johnson will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something SA Roosevelt surely won't give up without a fight. As for Reagan, they will head out on the road to challenge Madison at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Reagan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season.
