Football Recap: Sanford Extends Winning Streak to Five

Sanford extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 7-1. They walked away with a 28-18 win over the Dolores Bears. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sanford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rylan Mortensen and Colter Canty.

As for Dolores, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Sanford is ranked fifth).

River Wickstrom and Michael Rantz certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Wickstrom threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt, while Rantz picked up 128 receiving yards and one TD. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 89 yards.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sanford is set to square off against their familiar foe Dove Creek at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Dolores will take on rival Norwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
