Football Recap: Fremd Comes Up Short Despite Mackenzie Drake's Big Defensive Game

Fremd entered their contest against Buffalo Grove on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Vikings took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bison. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vikings came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Bison are ranked 66th).

Despite the defeat, Fremd saw an underclassman step up: freshman Suzanna Grosman picked up 164 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 164 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Grosman.

Even if they lost, Fremd's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was MacKenzie Drake with two. She is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Fremd's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Buffalo Grove, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-6.
