Softball Recap: Independence/Gilmanton Comes Up Short

Independence/Gilmanton had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it nine. They came up short against the Augusta Beavers, falling 14-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 2, 2023, but that streak is no more.

As for Augusta, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-7. The result was nothing new for the Beavers, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Augusta's part, Brooklyn Krueger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Stella Zank was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Rilee Bethke, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence/Gilmanton will venture away from home to square off against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Augusta, they will square off against Shell Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
