Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Washington Latin Public Charter School's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Washington Latin Public Charter School walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the DC International Dragons on Friday. Considering the Lions have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ben Blier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Goldsmith, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tate Meier, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Washington Latin Public Charter School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DC International only posted an OBP of .208.

Washington Latin Public Charter School is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for DC International, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-9.

As of now, neither Washington Latin Public Charter School nor the Dragons have any future games scheduled.
