Football Recap: Baker Giles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead IMG Academy State over Mt. Bethel Christian Academy

If IMG Academy State was feeling good fresh off their 32-0 takedown of Marathon last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ascenders took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles on Thursday. Despite 136 more yards than the Eagles, the Ascenders couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

IMG Academy State lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Baker Giles, who rushed for 122 yards on only 13 carries, and also threw for 197 yards and one touchdown. Selah Justice was another key player, gaining 113 total yards and a touchdown.

Mt. Bethel Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Ronin Thompson, who rushed for 84 yards and one TD, and also threw for 95 yards and one touchdown. Thompson also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making five total tackles.

IMG Academy State now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.

Coming up, IMG Academy State will welcome Ida Baker at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 807 yards in their previous games. As for Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Greenville at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th.
