Softball Recap: East Central Trojans vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

East Central extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 17-9 in the process. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greenfield-Central Cougars. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Paige Hotze spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Delaney Donawerth was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Greenfield-Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On Greenfield-Central's side, Addie Heacox looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

East Central and Greenfield-Central are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Trojans will challenge Whiteland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greenfield-Central, they will face off against Mt. Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
