Softball Recap: Becton Takes a Loss

Becton had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 0-14 to make it 12. They lost 12-2 to the Lodi Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-9 on April 8th.

As for Lodi, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For Lodi's part, Melody Zuniga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Zuniga was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Fernandes, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Leah Durante was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Becton will welcome Nutley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lodi, they will be playing at home against Paterson Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
