Basketball Recap: Celie Shield Key Part of a Team Effort in Cougars Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Anne's-Belfield, Collegiate was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the St. Catherine's Saints out 46-44. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 50-40 two weeks ago.

Collegiate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Celie Shield led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Shield is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last three games she's played. Mia Shrestha was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine assists.

The victory got Collegiate back to even at 9-9. As for St. Catherine's, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Collegiate will venture away from home to square off against Saint Gertrude at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Collegiate is facing Saint Gertrude at the right time seeing as Saint Gertrude is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for St. Catherine's, they will welcome St. Anne's-Belfield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Anne's-Belfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 matchups -- so hopefully St. Catherine's likes a good challenge.
